Today's Dream: Tomorrow's Reality
Anti-Racism Program

Today's Dream: Tomorrow's Reality Workshops

Today's Dream, Tomorrow's Reality Workshop has been in existence since 1997. In 1997, Maxine Amos and Tamarah Hefner were sent to Chicago for training. Since that time, the team has added two new team members, Esther Armstrong and Sharon Johnson.

In January 2003, Maxine Amos and Tamarah Hefner became members of the churchwide planning team to rework and revamp the TDTR materials. This church wide team consists of nine members. Pastor Barbara Berry-Bailey, Pastor Cynthia Ishler, Cam Martin, Maxine Amos, Leslie Whited Vance, Tamarah Hefner, Mia McNulty, Andrea Scaggs and Inez Torres Davis from churchwide in Chicago. We met in Carefree Arizona. Another meeting was held in June in a suburb of Chicago.

In November 2003, Regions 1-5 sent representatives from their TDTR teams to Kansas City, Kansas to be presented and trained with the new materials by the churchwide team. In April 2004, Regions 6-9 will send representatives from their teams to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for their training.

The new material is in a cookbook form. The choices are from many appetizers, breads, main course and dessert. This menu plan can consist of one hour up to a two day retreat. Churches will be able to tell the anti-racism team the amount of time that they would like to have a workshop and the team can choose a menu that would best fit into that time frame. The menu consist of many bible studies, videos, prayers and instructions as to how to become an anti-racist.

On February 7, St. Luke's in Monroe held a three hour workshop. Maxine Amos and Tamarah Hefner were the presenters for this workshop. Be the next church to call for a workshop. There is not any cost to your church. The team is willing and waiting for your call. We are very excited about the new materials and how this gives flexibility to our presentation. Please email the web manager if your church is interested in a workshop and you will be contacted.
